Currie came into Ulster from Scotland, and the oldest line of the name had been Irish before it was ever Scottish. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Currie family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Currie Name in Ireland
In Ireland the name belongs chiefly to Ulster, where it settled from Scotland in the plantation era. Scotland gave it two beginnings: some Curries take their name from the lands of Currie near Edinburgh, while the Hebridean Curries are MacMhuirichs — hereditary bards to Clanranald, descended from Muireadhach Ó Dálaigh, an Irish poet who crossed to Scotland around 1213. That line makes Currie one of the few names to leave Ireland, spend four centuries in Scottish service, and come back. The native Irish Curry, from Ó Comhraidhe, is a separate name with its own southern history.
How the Currie Blanket Is Made
This is loom work. The crest and tartan are woven from 100% premium cotton yarn rather than printed, with traditional fringed edges.
