Crombie is a Scottish place before it is a family: a bend in the land, named for the crookedness of it. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Crombie family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Crombie Name in Ireland
The root is the Gaelic crom, crooked or bent, describing ground that turns rather than runs straight, and it gave its name to places in Aberdeenshire and Fife. Families took the name from the places, as was the ordinary way of it, and carried it south and west. Crombies crossed into Ulster with the seventeenth-century settlement and the name has been recorded in the northern counties ever since. In Irish registers it sits close to Cromie, and the two are frequently confused — but they parted company early enough that a family holding one spelling consistently is usually holding its own line, not a variant of the other.
How the Crombie Blanket Is Made
Woven, not printed. The crest and tartan are formed in 100% premium cotton yarn as the cloth is made, and finished with traditional fringed edges.
