Croke is a Munster name that ended up on the most famous stadium in Ireland. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Croke family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Croke Name in Ireland
The name arrived with Norman settlement and established itself in Munster, particularly around Tipperary, Cork, and Limerick, where Crokes appear steadily in the records from the medieval period on. Its best-known bearer is Thomas Croke, Archbishop of Cashel, who became the first patron of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1884 and threw the weight of the church behind the revival of hurling and Gaelic football at a moment when both were in danger of disappearing. Croke Park in Dublin carries his name. For a surname of Norman origin, it is a striking place to end up — attached permanently to the headquarters of the Gaelic games.
How the Croke Blanket Is Made
The design is built into the cloth rather than laid onto it — 100% premium cotton yarn woven into crest and tartan, edged with a traditional fringe.
