Creighton came to Fermanagh from a village outside Edinburgh and stayed for four hundred years. This premium heritage woven blanket honors the Creighton family crest against the Irish National Tartan.
The Creighton Name in Ireland
The origin is Crichton in Midlothian, and the surname travelled to Ireland with the plantation of Ulster in the early seventeenth century. The Creightons — the name is also written Crichton, and both forms belong to the same stock — settled in County Fermanagh and became one of its principal families, holding Crom on the shore of Lough Erne, where the estate and its ancient yews still stand. Elsewhere in Ulster the name spread through Tyrone, Donegal, and Antrim. It is one of the clearest examples of a Scottish surname that became thoroughly Irish without ever losing the Scottish spelling underneath.
How the Creighton Blanket Is Made
The pattern is structural rather than surface. Woven from 100% premium cotton yarn instead of printed, the crest keeps its definition for years, and the blanket finishes in a traditional fringe.
